Everyone likes saving money, especially when you’re doing something good for the environment at the same time. Did you know that BC Hydro offers rebates for things like reducing your carbon footprint? If you live in the Fraser Valley, including places like Chilliwack and the Lower Mainland, you might eligible for these savings.
BC Hydro offers rebates on energy saving appliances, fixtures, and home renovations. The initiative is two-fold: to encourage and reward people for taking measures to save energy, and to help meet green standards set by the city and the province.
You might be wondering if you qualify for these energy saving rebates. Here’s a list of the measures BC Hydro is offering rebates for.
Home Renovation Rebates
If you have been doing or are considering renovations in your home, these rebates may sway you to make sure those choices are energy saving. If you improve your home’s energy efficiency, the following rebates are available:
- Insulation: up to $1,200
- Ductless Heat Pump: $800
- Ventilation Fan: up to $50
- Draft-proofing: up to $500 (require the support of an energy advisor)
- Natural gas hot water heaters
- EnerChoice fireplaces
- A $750 bonus offer for making three or more eligible upgrades
To qualify, residents homes and/or residents must meet the following criteria:
- Residential customers reside in the BC Hydro and/or FortisBC service territory
- Electricity or natural gas is the primary heating fuel for the home
- Homes must have a minimum 12 months utility billing history
- Residential dwellings, including single-family detached homes, duplexes, row homes, townhouses, or mobile homes on a permanent foundation

Other Energy Efficient Rebates
BC Hydro is promising to bring back appliance rebates as early as spring (which is just around the corner!). In the meantime, BC Hydro provides a list of the most energy efficient appliances to help you save money on your energy bill.
And if you are considering replacing your old appliances, there’s a good chance they can be recycled rather than taken to the landfill. Visit the Recycling Council of British Columbia to find out what can be recycled and where to recycle them.
