With rebates now available for the purchase of new electric cars in Canada, and the price of gas in Vancouver and throughout the Lower Mainland at shockingly high and record-setting prices, electric vehicles are more popular than ever. And the city is responding to the demand. The network of electric car charging stations is getting stronger, more convenient and more reliable.

Also responding to the demand are car manufacturers themselves, with more and more manufacturers bringing electric vehicle technology into their fleets.

So what are some other electric cars to choose from? Here is a (not totally complete) list of the electric cars available (or coming soon) in Canada.

Tesla

With several models to choose from, including the Model X, Model S, and Model 3, Tesla is often considered the gold standard with the best, most innovative, and most exciting vehicle designs on the market. There are even pick up trucks in the works, though when exactly they will be released to consumers is unknown.

Nissan

The Nissan LEAF was a pioneer of the affordable all-electric vehicle in Canada, and the newer LEAF Plus models are gaining in popularity. The Plus has an increased range and is hailed as one of the best on the market today, especially for its price point.

Kia

The Kia Soul EV and the Kia Niro EV have a great range for electric vehicles (383 kilometers) and maintain that distinct Kia aesthetic. Both models will be hitting Canadian highways later this year.

Chevrolet

The Chevy Bolt was released in Canada in 2017, a year or so later than its release into the American and European markets. Upon its initial release, it quickly climbed the ranks as one of the best electric vehicles for value and quality, but the field was emptier just a few years ago. Having a jump on the market has its advantages though, and it is still one of the best electric vehicles for its price point.

Volkswagon

The VW take on the electric vehicle is found in their hugely popular golf models. The e-golf takes the zippy compact car and makes it electric, and has already attracted a wide following for its decent range and brand recognition.

Hyundai

Hyundai’s contribution to the electric vehicle market is found in the IONIQ and the Kona EV. What the IONIQ lacks in range compared to other newcomers to the market, it makes up for in affordability. The Kona, on the other hand, has both range and a competitive price going for it. Hyundai’s models are great for commuting and city driving, and are a popular choice for urbanites.

Audi

New to Canadian roads is the Audi e-tron. Killing it as always with impeccable design and luxury options, the e-tron doesn’t necessarily beat out any other model when it comes to range, but the model sure is gorgeous inside and out.

BMW, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, and Smart cars also have or are bringing electric vehicles to Canadian markets, too, so watch out for more electric vehicles and charging stations popping up around Vancouver and the rest of Canada.
