Yes, smoke detectors have a shelf life or expiry date usually indicated on the detector itself.

My insurance company does not want to insure us or they may increase our premiums. What can I do about this?

Most insurance companies require a letter from a licensed electrical contractor to insure that the electrical system is safe.

My breaker is tripping, can I just put a larger breaker in to correct the problem?

No, This will result in possible fire hazard. This could allow 2 much current to flow through an under sized wire.

Can I put my combination (microwave/fan) over my stove using my old hood fan wire?

No, a microwave/hood fan should have its own dedicated circuit coming from the electrical panel otherwise you will experience tripping of breakers.
